Whether it’s the pitchers mound, at the plate, or in the field, Blacksburg’s Sam Szefc has proved to not only be one of the area’s best players, but one of the best in the state of Virginia.

A hard fought battle between Blacksburg and Lord Botetourt baseball went the Bruins way Monday, 12-8.

The junior quarterback helped the Bruins reach the playoffs for the first time since 2019.

Salem was looking to avoid an 0-5 start to the season when they hosted Blacksburg, this week.

Szefc, a junior, was nearly perfect through the air, completing 10 of 12 passes for 140 yards and one touchdown.
