SALEM, Va. โ The 16th annual Guns โN Hoses softball game contested Friday night at the Salem Memorial Ballpark did not disappoint. The Police built a lead in this game, but the Firefighters stormed back with a 3-run rally in the bottom of the 9th. The โHosesโ extinguished the โGunsโ 10-9 in the annual grudge match. The firefighters versus police event raises money for the local Muscular Dystrophy Association. โItโs going to be great camaraderie between us and the cops,โ 1st Lieutenant C.J.
Roanoke County firefighters get improved thermal cameras
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. Some local first responders are getting a technology upgrade that could help save lives. Roanoke County firefighters have nine new thermal imaging cameras. Theyre more user-friendly than their current cameras and are more responsive. Funding from the Virginia Department of Fire Programs paid for the cameras. We want folks to use the camera to make decisions and not necessarily just look for hot spots, not look for victims, things like that, said Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Charlie Rucker.

75-year-old woman dies in South Boston house fire
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. โ Firefighters found the body of a 75-year-old woman as they were working to extinguish a house fire in South Boston on Tuesday. The 911 came in at 11:41 a.m. for a house fire at 1929 Crawley Ave. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames, according to the South Boston Police Department. The house was declared a total loss after the heavy fire damage, according to police. Virginia State Policeโs Bomb and Arson Unit is assisting South Boston police in the investigation to determine the fireโs cause and origin.
