Pulaski police working to stop Detroit gang from selling drugs

PULASKI (WSLS 10) - Pulaski police say a Detroit-based gang is raking in cash selling drugs in the area and they are working to stop it.

Investigators say the issue started in 2013. Now, they're talking with the commonwealth's attorney to push for harsher penalties on anyone arrested in connection to the gang activity.

"We just noticed in our local cases about 2013 that's when we started noticing the criminal activity and people connected with that web," says Captain Anthony Meredith, Pulaski Police Department.

He says some of the dealers can actually make more money selling in a smaller town like Pulaski, as opposed to bigger cities.

"People have easy access to narcotics up in the bigger city," Meredith explained. "It's more accessible to get and you bring it to a rural community and establish a foothold and get a market place."

The police department said it has executed nearly 10 search warrants since 2013 and locked up several people involved. But the problem persists.

Police Chief G.W. Roche says the community also plays a role on stopping more gang members from coming in to town.

"There are lots of ways people can help to not have this problem here and if people would go a little extra and check up on who may be wanting to rent your property," says Roche.
