New Montgomery County superintendent presents modified start times plan
MONTGOMERY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Just two months on the job, the new superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools has presented a modified school start times plan.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Miear presented his proposal to the school board Tuesday night.
The plan includes moving the current start times for elementary schools 15 minutes later, from 9 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. School bus pickup times would also shift from the current 7:35 - 8:10 a.m. time frame to between 8:05 and 8:30 a.m.
The start time for the middle schools would shift from 7:40 a.m. to 8:05 a.m. and bus pickup times would go from 6:10 - 7:05 a.m. to 7:05 - 7:40 a.m.
The start time for the high schools would move from 7:50 a.m. to 8:05 a.m. and pickup times would shift from 6:10 - 7:05 a.m. to 7:05 - 7:40 a.m., same time frame as the middle schools.
The proposal comes a little more than a month after the Montgomery County School Board rescinded a previous vote to start school earlier for elementary students and later for middle and high school students.
The school board is expected to vote on Miear's proposal at the April 5 meeting.
