Progress being made on newest section of Danville's Riverwalk Trail

Trail has been cut; bids for paving due next week

DANVILLE, Va. ā€“ Work is moving forward on the latest section of Danville'sĀ RiverwalkĀ Trail.

The section is about 900 feet long and runs behind the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Riverside Drive.

The trail has already been cut and will be paved. Bids for the paving are scheduled to be received next week.

When this section is complete, only two more sections will be left before the entire trail is finished.

The trail is part of the larger Beaches to Bluegrass Trail, which will eventually run from Virginia Beach to the Smoky Mountains.

"You'll ultimately be able to go from Danville to South Boston to Virginia Beach on a trail system," said Danville Parks and Recreation Department facilities and services planner Emily Ragsdale.

The section of the Riverwalk Trail is expected to be completed in June.
