Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

Today is the deadline to submit your comments about decriminalizing marijuana in Virginia.  The State Crime Commission is accepting your thoughts.  State Republican Majority Leader Thomas Normnet supports the study which will be presented to the General Assembly in October. Work on Church Street in Lynchburg will shut down one lane of traffic today.  Crews will be getting ready for milling and paving operations, which will take place this weekend.  On Saturday and Sunday, Church Street will be closed.

Today is the deadline to submit your comments about the Downtown Lynchburg 2040 Master Plan.  The city is looking for ideas about business, transportation and parking, quality of life and development.  City planners want to improve access to the river, which is currently blocked by the train tracks.  

The Virginia Tech Hyperloop Team will begin competing today in the Hyperloop Pod Competition in California.  The 12 member team is competing against 28 other universities from around the world.  The pod that hits the highest speed on the one mile test track will win.  Virginia Tech has the only team made up of all undergraduate students.
