What's News Today: November 30, 2017

Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

A woman who is charged with shooting and killing a woman and injuring a man goes on trial today.  Kimberly Gollop is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Police say she shot and killed Felicia Poindexter and injured David Gravely after shooting them at a Roanoke Family Dollar in August.  Investigators say she and Gravely were in a previous relationship. They obtained protective orders against each other in the days before the shooting.

Sweet Briar College will kick off the holiday season today with the lighting of the school's Christmas Tree. Students, faculty and staff will gather to sing Christmas carols and to see the tree light up for the season.

The town of Vinton gets into the holiday spirit today. The town will light its Christmas Tree at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Building. That's followed at 7 p.m. by the annual Christmas parade. More than 100 people and groups have entered. The parade ends at the War Memorial where you can visit with Santa and enjoy entertainment and refreshments.

Piedmont Arts in Martinsville holds a free concert tonight. Master percussionist Tom Teasley will perform, showing innovative percussion techniques. The performance begins at 7 p.m.
