Firefighters said when they arrived at the home, the top floor had collapsed, and the blaze was too severe to allow an interior attack of the fire.

Officials said after the fire was brought under control, a search was conducted and a victim was found on the first floor at around 4 a.m. No other occupants were reported to be in the home at the time of the fire.

The victim's body was sent to the medical examiner's office in Roanoke for identification.

Officials said the structure was a total loss.
