Cigarette caused deadly New Year’s Day house fire in Henry County

Cynthia Robinson, 66, died in the fire

HENRY COUNTY, Va. – One person died in a house fire on New Year’s Day in Henry County, according to the Henry County Department of Public Safety.

On Jan. 1, shortly after 1 p.m., fire crews responded to 495 Wilson Avenue.

The fire at the single-story home of Peter and Cynthia Robinson was quickly extinguished; however, Cynthia was found dead in the bedroom.

The Henry County Fire Marshal’s Office, with assistance from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the fire.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a cigarette.

The case is still under investigation, pending the final report from the medical examiner’s office.
