Roanoke man arrested, charged after standoff closes parts of Main Street in Southwest Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. - UPDATE (12/12/2021 - 12:41 p.m.)

A man was arrested after a standoff in Southwest Roanoke Sunday morning.

Jared Ford, 29, of Roanoke, is charged with assault and battery, abduction and a protective order was served.

Police say the incident started at about 4 a.m. and is believed to be a domestic dispute. Authorities did not disclose what led up to the incident and did not say what the altercation entailed.

At about 10 a.m., police blocked off a portion of Main Street as they responded to the ‘critical incident’ and told those who lived between Kerns Ave SW and Welton Ave SW to stay inside of their homes until the matter was resolved.

Main Street has since then been reopened. Authorities report that there is no threat to the community.

This is an ongoing investigation, according to authorities.


UPDATE (12/12/2021 - 11:05 a.m.)

At this time, a portion of Main Street in Southwest Roanoke is blocked off due to a ‘critical incident,’ according to the Roanoke City Police Department.

Authorities advise that those who live between Kerns Ave SW and Welton Ave SW stay inside their homes until police resolve the incident.

Police cars have blocked off Main Street near the intersection of Hamilton Avenue.
