Roanoke College partners with Salem City Schools, opening up new learning opportunities for students

SALEM, Va. – Big news from Roanoke College and Salem City Schools on Monday.

Students at Salem High School will now be able to enroll in classes at Roanoke College.

This type of program already exists for Salem students at Virginia Western, but officials say the location is difficult for some students to get to.

With this deal, students have a new option right down the road.

”This grant is all about increasing access and affordability for college for more students in the Roanoke Valley,” Kathy Wolfe, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Roanoke College said.

“Having a program like this here at Roanoke College just gives us more opportunities to offer to our students and I think the fact that they are five minutes away-- it’s less of an inconvenience for our students,” Curtis Hicks, Superintendent of Salem City Schools said.

The program will offer three different career paths: education, STEM, and communications.

The program is expected to be in a planning phase for one year.
