PepsiCo, Coca-Cola and Starbucks said Tuesday they were suspending business in Russia after that country's invasion of Ukraine, joining McDonald's and a host of other U.S. corporations. "Our hearts are with the people who are enduring unconscionable effects from these tragic events in Ukraine," Coke said in a brief statement Tuesday afternoon. Like McDonald's, Coke had been under pressure to stop operating in Russia in recent days. Pepsi, on the other hand, is not halting all of its Russian business. McDonald's is looking to win the chicken sandwich wars with lower prices, while Restaurant Brands International's Burger King is still figuring out its strategy, according to a Credit Suisse report. Its Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich, which was first launched in 2015, was priced at a premium. Burger King, on the other hand, appears to still be working out its pricing strategy. In markets that aren't testing the new sandwich, the burger chain usually charges more for its current chicken sandwich. Burger King is testing a loyalty program in five U.S. markets as part of a broader push into expanding the digital experience for customers. The introduction of Burger King's Royal Perks test follows an announcement from archrival McDonald's on Wednesday that it's entering the next phase of its own loyalty program tests. ‘You got 2 seconds before I shoot you': Florida man kills Burger King employee after order takes too long, deputies say
FLORIDA – A Florida woman who was upset that her Burger King order took too long got a man to come to the Orlando restaurant and shoot one of the employees, according to the Sheriff’s Office in Orange County, Florida, WKMG reports. When they arrived to the restaurant on Saturday around 7:30 p.m., deputies said they found Desmond Joshua, 22, with a gunshot wound in the parking lot. A witness said the restaurant was busy that night and the drive-thru was backed up, which caused a longer wait than usual. A witness intervened to stop the fight when Rodriguez-Tormes put Joshua in a headlock and started choking him, according to the affidavit. Deputies said Monday that the woman Rodriguez-Tormes was with has not been arrested at this time.
Impossible Whoppers huge hit at Burger King
Burger King via CNN(CNN) - Popeyes' spicy chicken sandwich is the only thing in the fast food business that's hotter than Burger King's Impossible Whopper. That's great news for Restaurant Brands, which owns both chains. Restaurant Brands reported solid earnings for the third quarter Monday morning, led by a more than 10% increase in sales at Burger King and nearly 15% surge at Popeyes. The company said sales at Burger King restaurants open at least a year rose 5% in the quarter. Restaurant Brands attributed the success of the plant-based Impossible Whopper, which has been rolled out to all Burger King locations in the United States, for the strong sales.

Dunkin' via CNN(CNN) - Dunkin' is launching its Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich nationally in November, two months ahead of schedule, after a highly successful test of the product this summer. Dunkin' first introduced a breakfast sandwich featuring Beyond Meat's meatless sausage in New York City this July. Just a month later, Burger King announced that it would make the product available nationally because the test had gone "exceedingly well." For chains like Burger King, Dunkin' and others, the meat substitute protein trend could be a boon. For Dunkin', the Beyond breakfast sandwich is also a way to capture sales in an expanding segment.
Burger King introduces 'The Ghost Whopper' at select restaurants
Just in time for Halloween, Burger King is introducing what it calls "The Ghost Whopper." The Ghost Whopper features a white cheddar-cheese flavored bun. The Ghost Whopper will go on sale on October 24. This isn't the first time Burger King has gotten into the spirit of the holiday. No one hurt in fire at Burger King in Salem
SALEM, Va. - A fire caused an estimated $30,000 worth of damage to a Burger King in Salem. Crews responded to a fire at the Burger King at 815 West Main Street on Thursday just after 4 p.m., according to Salem Fire-EMS. The first units, who arrived within just a couple minutes of receiving the call, spotted flames on the roof. They contained the fire to that area, according to Salem Fire-EMS. The building was evacuated, and no one was hurt in the fire, which was determined to be accidental.

Burger King ditches plastic toys in UK kids' meals

Some 320 tonnes of single-use plastic will be saved each year, according to Burger King. The company will also install containers in UK stores so that old plastic toys can be recycled and used to build play areas. Burger King was responding to a petition from Ella and Caitlin McEwan, aged 9 and 7, who wrote: "It's not enough to make recyclable plastic toys big, rich companies shouldn't be making toys out of plastic at all." Burger King said it intends to remove non-biodegradable plastic toys from other markets by 2025.
Impossible Burgers are coming to 1,500 cafeterias this fall

Starting this fall, the plant-based meat substitute will be available at about 1,500 colleges, corporate cafeterias and hospitals through Sodexo, a foodservice company. That means workers at corporate offices of major companies, including Unilever and Ford, students and fast-food customers throughout the country will soon be able to buy an Impossible burger with ease. The other is to use pre-made meat substitutes, like Impossible's protein, for dishes designed to mimic the taste of meat. Meat substitutes may once have been a niche product, but today they're attracting mainstream consumers, including non-vegans.
Subway testing meatless meatball sub
(CNN) - Subway is exploring the plant-based protein trend with a meatless meatball sub. The Beyond Meatball Marinara sub will be available for a limited time. Burger King will start serving a meatless version of its Whopper, featuring a patty made by Beyond competitor Impossible Foods, nationwide this week. For restaurants, testing out the products is a way to cash in on a fast-growing trend. Beyond and Subway worked together to develop the Beyond Meatball, which is only available at Subway restaurants.
Impossible Whopper coming to every Burger King in US next week
(CNN) - Burger King will start selling its meatless Whopper across the United States on Aug. 8, the biggest rollout for Impossible's plant-based product. The burger chain has been selling the Impossible Whopper, featuring a meatless patty made by Impossible Foods, in a few markets in the United States since April. The Impossible Whopper has been performing well, Chris Finazzo, Burger King's president for the Americas, told CNN Business. The Impossible Whopper is supposed to taste just like Burger King's regular Whopper. Burger King hasn't yet decided whether to make the Impossible Whopper a permanent part of its menu.

(CNN) - Burger King is trying to get customers' attention with something a little different: Tacos. Burger King first tested out tacos in western states. "We've seen success with tacos in those restaurants and knew it was time to bring this west coast favorite nationwide," Chris Finazzo, president of North America for Burger King, said in a statement. They could distract Burger King from focusing on creating growth within its main menu, Saunders said. But "sometimes you get the impression that Burger King chases after the shiny objects rather than focusing on the core business."
