VMI’s Greg Parham enters NCAA Transfer Portal
LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI basketball program finished the 2020-2021 season with a record of 13-12, reaching the Southern Conference semifinals. It was the most wins for the program since the 2013-2014 season and it was thanks in part to senior Greg Parham. Parham announced via Twitter he has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Alvarez helps Mercer defeat VMI, gain 1st SoCon title game
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Neftali Alvarez scored 23 points, making a trio of 3-pointers, and seventh-seeded Mercer defeated Southern Conference tournament upstart VMI 73-59 in the semifinal round. After upsetting second-seeded Wofford in the quarterfinals, Mercer (18-10) will meet top-seeded UNC Greensboro in Monday’s championship game. The Bears have reached the semifinals once before in 2015, but never the title game. Myles Lewis led the Keydets with 24 points on 10 of 16 shooting and also pulled down 14 rebounds. Mercer’s bench also proved to be a factor, tallying 20 points to VMI’s three points from the reserves.
Late comeback gives VMI upset win in SoCon Quarterfinals
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Jake Stephens scored 25 points as VMI narrowly beat Furman 91-90 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference tournament. Greg Parham added 21 points and Trey Bonham had 14 points for VMI. Myles Lewis added 13 points. Noah Gurley scored a career-high 30 points plus seven rebounds and seven assists for the Paladins. The wins puts VMI in the SoCon semifinals for the first time since 2003.
VMI downs Samford, earns 6th SOCON win of the season
LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI held an eight point lead at halftime, setting up a momentous second half where they had a 32-9 run, on its way to a 85-56 win over Samford. The 29-point win is the largest conference victory under head coach Dan Earl as the Keydets moved to 10-1 at home this season. We did a pretty decent job against a team that presses,” Earl said. “I thought we also did a pretty decent job of playing with a big lead and time left. His nice for him to get a milestone like this,” said coach Earl.
VMI uses second half surge to take down Western Carolina
LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI went to halftime with a slim 39-37 lead over Western Carolina. Whatever the halftime speech was, it lit a fire under the Keydets’ playmakers. The Catamounts tied the game at 41 early in the second half before the Keydets responded with a 13-0 run. Myles Lewis got to the rim - overall a very good second half. And DJ Nussbaum had a good impact defensively and was able to score the ball some as well.
VMI tops The Citadel 110-103 behind career high performances
Parham posted his third straight 20-point+ effort and Conway garnered career highs both in points and rebounds with 13 while hitting a career-high seven 3-point shots. VMI converted 26-of-30 free throws including 14-of-16 over the last 5:37 to hold off a Citadel rally. VMI moved to 7-1 on the season after leading at the half and out rebounding a foe. They (The Citadel) can certainly shoot the ball and we had some guys have some tremendous games scoring the ball.
Stephens, Parham score 25 each for VMI in 84-79 win
VMI defeats Chattanooga for the first time since February of 2018LEXINGTON, Va. – Jake Stephens and Greg Parham scored 25 points apiece as VMI defeated Chattanooga 84-79. Kamdyn Curfman had 17 points for VMI, which earned its sixth consecutive home victory. Today we got some really good minutes from Ta’Vonne Bond especially on the defensive end and Trajan Fahl gave us some really good minutes. And obviously, Greg Parham, Jake Stephens and Kamdyn Curfman were tremendous today. Stefan Kenic added 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Staton-McCray, Parks lead Samford past VMI 84-71
Staton-McCray registered 15 points and six rebounds as Samford got past VMI 84-71 in the Southern Conference opener for both teams. Preston Parks added 15 points for for Samford (5-3, 1-0 Southern Conference). Greg Parham had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Keydets (5-5, 0-1). Kamdyn Curfman added 17 points. Trey Bonham had 15 points.
Stephens, Gilkeson carry VMI over The Citadel 88-79
LEXINGTON, Va. – Jake Stephens had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead five VMI players in double figures as the Keydets ended their seven-game losing streak, topping The Citadel 88-79. Garrett Gilkeson added 16 points for the Keydets. Myles Lewis chipped in 12, Sean Conway scored 12 and Greg Parham had 10. Kaiden Rice led the Bulldogs with 17 points.
