The mother of a New River Valley 2-year-old will spend the rest of her life in prison for sexual crimes committed against her son.

A Christiansburg man received two life sentences plus an additional 90 years in connection to the death and sexual abuse of his girlfriend’s two-year-old son.

The man charged in the death of a two-year-old boy in Christiansburg entered a guilty plea on Monday morning.

We now know when the man already convicted of sexually abusing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son will be tried in connection with his 2019 death.

Kayla Thomas has been found guilty of all the charges against her in connection with committing sexual crimes against her then 2-year-old son in 2019.

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – A jury found McKenzie Hellman guilty of all five charges against him. Hellman was in Montgomery General District Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to producing child porn, reproducing child porn, animate object sexual penetration, producing child porn and forcible sodomy. Friday’s preliminary hearing revealed shocking new details about the alleged murder and abuse of a New River Valley toddler. The Montgomery County commonwealth's attorney says McKenzie Hellman is facing charges related to the murder and sexual abuse of Steven Meek. Meek was a 2-year-old who died from injuries he sustained while in Hellman's care. Meek's mother, Kayla Thomas, is also facing charges related to the abuse of her son. However, Hellman's attorneys and the court do not have the mental evaluation report back from the doctor. They said the doctor received information 10 days ago but has not gotten a report together yet for the court.
