The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that it had arrested two Campbell County residents following a joint investigation with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Christopher Andrew Withey was arrested in North Carolina on Oct. 15 following an undercover operation led by investigators with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office. The operation was part of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Investigators with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, or ICAC, said they’ve seen a major increase in the number of tips they’re tracking down — from an estimated 2,000 in 2019 to 10,600 last year.

An 82-year-old man has been arrested and charged as part of a Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigation, according to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.

In October of last year, the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted “Operation: Anvill Strike” a multi-day online undercover operation to identify individuals engaged in online sexual exploitation of children which led to the arrest of six individuals.

More than 1,400 pinwheels have been placed outside four locations, led by the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Each one represents a victim from last year.
