SUPER REGIONALS

It was five years ago to the day that John Szefc was announced as Virginia Tech’s next head baseball coach. And what a ride it’s been unfolding all the way to this weekend in the Super Regionals, where the Hokies are one of the final 16 teams in the country left playing baseball.

Virginia Tech split their games on Saturday, first beating Florida 6-0, then losing 7-2 in Game 2. A couple missed opportunities including 10 runners left on base, something the Hokies don’t expect to do on Sunday.

Survive and advance is the name of the game at this point in the season, and after beating Kentucky twice in the same day for the Super Regional berth, they now will face another SEC foe at Tech Softball Park, #13 Florida.

Hokies take down the Wildcats twice on Sunday to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals for the second season in a row.

The duo reflected on the team's most recent trip to the NCAA Super Regionals and Rochard's decision to return for a fifth season in Blacksburg.

The game was delayed nearly four hours between the eighth and ninth innings due to weather.

No. 8 seed Missouri utilized a six-run second inning en route to a 7-1 win against James Madison to even the best-of-three Super Regionals on Saturday night at the Mizzou Softball Stadium.

The Hokies defeated the Cougars 11-3 in 5 innings after a strong performance from ace pitcher Keely Rochard and the team combining for five home runs.
