Hundreds of people lined the streets of Downtown Roanoke to salute the men and women who have served the United States for the Virginia Veteran’s Parade.

ROANOKE, Va. – Virginia’s Veterans Parade is canceled this year in an effort to protect our nation’s heroes during the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers hoped things would change by the fall; however, with the continued spread of the virus, they knew they had to make a change. “As we go into this different year, we’ve all had to sacrifice and we realize now the sacrifices they’ve made for our country and hopefully as we have a celebratory event this year they’ll realize that we’re still thinking about them,” said Jeff Perkins, Boxley Materials Company president and planning committee member. For more than 10 years, the community has showed-up in support of the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Since there will be no parade, on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m., WSLS 10 will air a 30-minute special tribute to local veterans.
ROANOKE, Va. - Veterans Day came early in the Roanoke Valley. Hundreds watched the Virginia's Veterans Parade march through downtown Roanoke on Saturday morning. A multitude of veterans stood on the sidewalks to witness the parade, including married couple Robert and Debra Hopson. "We met in Denver, Colorado, at the Lowry Air Force Base 45 years ago," said Robert Hopson. After the parade, the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution placed a wreath at the Roanoke Veterans Memorial.
ROANOKE, Va. - It will be a very cold start to the weekend. Early morning temperatures across southwest Virginia will start in the teens and 20s under clear skies. Unfortunately, Saturday afternoon temperatures will only top out in the mid to upper 40s. Warmer air will briefly return Sunday and Monday, with highs reaching into the low to mid 60s. At this time, the cold air is chasing the moisture.
