Tornado watch canceled for southern parts of viewing area

Watch originally scheduled to end 12 a.m. Thursday

ROANOKE, Va. ā€“ A tornado watch issued for multiple counties in our viewing area has been canceled.

Since 7:02 p.m., counties included in the watch are Charlotte, Halifax, Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania counties, as well as the cities of Danville and Martinsville.

The watch originally covered Carroll, and Grayson counties, as well as the city of Galax, but the alert for those areas was canceled at 7:02 p.m.

The watch was originallyĀ scheduled to last until 12:00 a.m. midnight.

A watch means that tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching.

Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur. The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states.
