The Buffaloes went 6-5 in the fall, with the senior class having played 18 weeks of games in 2021. They used a complete offseason to their advantage, and are ready to show that hard work pays off this fall.

GALAX, Va. โ Monday nightโs season opener wasnโt quite a home game for either team. Rather than play at Floyd County, both squads traveled to Galax to play on the turf. After falling into a 14-point hole, the Caroll County Cavaliers would go on to score 20 straight, winning 20-14, and start the season 1-0.

Burton on Wednesday for the Class 1 State Semifinals. The Maroons travel to Honaker for its State Semifinal matchup on Wednesday. Up next is an away match up at Union for the State semifinal action. The Bulldogs will play at Abingdon to start State Tournament play. The Comets reach the State Tournament in back-to-back seasons, first final four appearance in over 4 decades.

Floyd County head football coach honored with a field in his name
FLOYD, Va. โ In July, Floyd Countyโs school board met to honor two longtime coaches at the high school by renaming their respective โoffices.โWinfred Beale, the head coach for Floyd County High Schoolโs football team, is entering is 39th year at the school. And what a better way to celebrate nearly four decades at a school than having your home turf named after you? The field will be renamed to Coach Beale Field, which the coach said surprised him. โHumbly happy, surprised, just grateful. The fans, parents, really good peoples well as their businesses, Iโm just really glad to be in a place like Floyd, Virginia.โ
