Fire department officials said crews got the fire under control within 10 minutes and kept it from spreading beyond the basement area of the home.

The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office ruled the fire accidental and determined it was caused by an electrical issue.

The basement sustained less than $10,000 worth of smoke and water damage, firefighters said.

The two residents have been displaced by the fire but are being assisted by family.
