The event, organized by Clean Valley Council and partners, focused on cleaning the watershed near Hortons Park to prevent trash from entering the Roanoke River.

Earth Day might now be for a couple of days, but that didn’t stop hundreds from gathering today to celebrate what makes this planet a great home.

Members from the 10 News family came together over the weekend to help clean up the Star City for Earth Day.

The “Clean Valley Council,” “Standing for Equity in the Roanoke Valley,” and “Roanoke Kiwanis” came together to participate in a trash pickup event Monday morning.

Parkway Brewing Co. has always been big on giving back to the community and through their Pints with a Purpose events on Wednesdays, the brewing company donates a dollar of every pint they sell that day to a local non-profit.

A new art sculpture was unveiled at Mill Mountain Zoo on Wednesday, made from litter and plastic cleaned up from the Roanoke River.

The Roanoke Valley’s newest 5K requires you to roll up your sleeves, throw some gloves on and grab a garbage bag. The goal is to get families, friends and coworkers together to pick up trash in honor of Earth Day on April 22.
