City of Roanoke hires team to create development plan for Evans Spring area
The City of Roanoke has hired a consulting team that will consider the next steps for Evans Spring, a large vacant property between I-581 and the Melrose Rugby, Fairland and Villa Heights Neighborhoods. The 130-acre property is near Valley View Mall.

ROANOKE, Va. There may still be hope for a project canceled earlier this year that was expected to bring 1,600 jobs to Roanoke. At a news conference Tuesday, Roanoke mayoral candidate David Bowers said if he is elected in November he will do everything he can to make the project happen. We need both a development on that Evans Spring site and one that is compatible to the next door neighborhood. This is not urban renewal, it is economic development. As we seek to repair any damage to our Black citizens due to urban renewal, lets have a plan.
Wholesale club, golf entertainment facility planned for land across from Valley View Mall
ROANOKE, Va. โ The city of Roanoke has officially received a proposal to develop its largest swath of unused land. The site is just across Interstate 581 from Valley View Mall, and Pavilionโs plan would finish the incomplete Valley View Drive/I-581 interchange. โCertainly having it actually filed is a pretty big milestone for us.โAccording to the 114-page application, the planned development would extend Valley View Drive through Evans Spring. The development would include a โwholesale warehouse club,โ a โgolf-related entertainment facility,โ a grocery store, and up to 300 apartments. โIf itโs done well, it could be a great benefit for Northwest Roanoke and a great benefit for the city," Shaw said.
