Heading to W.E. Cundiff Elementary in Vinton to vote in the Virginia Primary Election? Make sure to use the second entrance from Hardy Road, due to ongoing construction, if you’re coming from the Vinton Kroger and just before McDonald Street.

A major traffic safety improvement project is coming to one of Vinton’s busiest intersections, where about 12,000 to 15,000 vehicles drive daily on the intersection of Routes 24 (Hardy Road/ Bypass Road) and 634 (Hardy Road) in Vinton.

There is a heavy law enforcement presence along the 4800 block of Hardy Road near Old Mill Drive and Lynville of the Lake.

The deaths of two adults in Roanoke County are now being investigated as homicides, pending results from the Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the Roanoke County Police Department.

Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash which resulted in a fatality in Bedford County.

Crews from the Stewartsville-Chamblissburg Fire Department and Hardy Volunteer Fire Company responded along with other local organizations to a crash that left five hospitalized around 8:58 a.m. Sunday morning in Hardy, officials said.

Construction is well underway on a Franklin County road project designed to save lives

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – An SUV drove into the water after a crash in Bedford County Sunday morning. At 6:18 a.m., Virginia State Police said they responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hardy Road near the Hardy Ford Bridge close to the Franklin County line. Authorities said the SUV ran off the road, down an embankment and into the water. The driver was transported for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – Burglars broke into two local convenience stores early Tuesday, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the pair got away with cash and cigarettes. The pair burglarized the Eagle Mart located at 7645 Hardy Road in Hardy and the Redwood Express Mart located at 3362 Old Franklin Turnpike in Glade Hill. The Sheriff’s Office described the burglars as two middle-aged men wearing masks and head coverings. Anyone with information about these suspects is asked to contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at 540-483-3000.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – Emergency vehicles, flashing lights and people being loaded into an ambulance have become an all-too-common occurrence at the intersection of Hardy Road and Booker T. Washington Highway. That was very tragic," said Jackie Duncan, who owns a barbershop at the intersection. I’ve also seen three non-fatal accidents.”On Thursday, VDOT will hold a meeting to get public input on a proposed roundabout at the intersection. “I just don’t know if we’ve really got the space for that, but if it keeps traffic flowing and helps things to flow a little bit better that would be okay. Drew Crawford lives about two and a half miles from the intersection and has also seen multiple wrecks.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. - State police are investigating the death of a 28-year-old Rocky Mount man in a crash Friday night. The crash happened at 10:14 p.m. on Hardy Road, one-tenth of a mile east of MIddle Valley Road in Franklin County. A 1998 Buick Le Sabre was going west on Hardy Road, when it ran off the right side of the road, hit the guardrail and overturned, according to police.
