Roam NRV bikes are abandoned after company silently ceases operations
Normally, you can pedal to the metal on one of the 75 Roam NRV bikes to enjoy the Huckleberry Trail, commute around Virginia Tech or ride through Blacksburg and Christiansburg.But now itโs come to an abrupt halt. Each of the 16 bike hub locations in the New River Valley has an out-of-service sign.
New emergency towers increasing safety at Christiansburg trail, parks
The town of Christiansburg is installing nine emergency push-button call boxes along the Huckleberry Trail and in some town parks. Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Director Brad Epperley said installing the towers is a proactive safety step. As Christiansburg installs these towers, WSLS wanted to see if another popular trail in southwest Virginia had the same technology. In a statement to 10 News, Roanoke Parks and Recreation wrote:"Roanoke Parks and Recreation is committed to providing a safe experience for our park and greenway users. We have a page on our website dedicated to greenway safety, and the department regularly meets with the Roanoke Police Department to discuss safety in our facilities.
13 years ago today: Montgomery County Cpl. Eric Sutphin killed during manhunt
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - Wednesday marks 13 years to the day since Montgomery County Cpl. Eric Sutphin was killed during a manhunt. In 2006, William Morva escaped while being treated at the hospital and shot and killed security guard Derrick McFarland. Sutphin was killed while trying to take down Morva. Sutphin left behind a wife and twin daughters.
