RADFORD, Va. – Mothers at a New River Valley nursing home received a special surprise on Sunday. Unbeknownst to residents, Radford Health and Rehab Center organized a drive-by parade for family members to briefly see their loved ones. The idea was inspired by employees who said they wanted to give moms a special day. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, no visitors are allowed in the nursing home at this time. Those rules will remain in place until coronavirus restrictions are loosened in Virginia.

As we all know, this Mother’s Day was quite different than most years, but that didn’t have to make it any less special. Even though this year was unconventional due to the coronavirus pandemic, we’re confident you all had creative and beautiful ways to honor your mother -- or another woman in your life, and we want to see what you did. ROANOKE, Va. – As we enter Mother’s Day weekend, business is blooming for area florists. If you call George’s Flowers, this is the automated answer you will get:“Thank you for calling George’s Flowers in Roanoke, you have reached us on one of the busiest Mother’s Days in our 39 year history…”It goes onto say that they are unable to take any additional orders until Monday. On Friday, 10 News caught up with the owner, George Clements. He believes the boom in business is because less people are visiting with each other in person and therefore opting for delivery options. “For the fact that they can’t go visit their mom, their grandmama, so they want to make sure they have flowers and it’s nice that they can give us a call, or order online, and have that accomplished…”They have somewhere around 500 deliveries over the course of this Mother’s Day weekend.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Mother’s Day is this weekend and it will be one to remember as many families will have to figure out creative ways to celebrate moms. But for first time mothers who have babies in the NICU--- this holiday is especially hard. But they've opened extra rooms to let NICU moms stay and develop that needed connection. To keep her safe and practice social distancing, 10 News had to do our interview in separate rooms. “We have movie night two nights a week where the moms can get together and watch movies on the big screen utilizing social distancing,” Lilley said.

ROANOKE – Natalie and Brittany are wishing their moms a 'Happy Mother's Day', showing a few mom commercials, and talking about tattoo technology.

This photo was sent in by Nuoya Zhou of her mom, Chunxiang Fang. Nuoya says she hasn't seen her mom for almost a year because she's studying abroad in the US.Nuoya says she's coming to visit this summer without knowing a word in English. "I just want to say happy mothers' day. I miss you!"
