Roanoke, Lynchburg, Christiansburg Regal Theaters to reopen in May
ROANOKE, Va. โ Movie lovers, Regal has some good news for you! After a little over a year of being closed to prevent coronavirus spread, Regal Theaters announced itโs reopening its theaters in our region starting May 14. Lynchburg will see its theater at River Ridge open on that date, with Christiansburg and Roanoke having their Regal theaters open a week later on May 21. While Regal is starting to open its theaters, Roanokeโs two AMC theaters have already been open and are open three days a week on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. AdSimilar to Regal, AMC requires moviegoers to wear a mask at all times unless eating, and seating capacities are limited to meet state and local mandate requirements.

RICHMOND, Va. โ Fans of โThe Walking Deadโ in Virginia, hereโs your chance to shine! Kendall Cooper Casting is looking for people to be extras for โThe Walking Dead: World Beyond.โThis show is a spin-off from the popular AMC series โThe Walking Dead.โFilming will take place in Richmond from February until June and is often requires a 12-hour or more workday. Youโll be asked for information on your background, skillset, clothing measurements and more. You will also be asked to submit several photos of yourself. The cast and crew are required to follow all COVID-19 restrictions such as social distancing and wearing a mask.
GameStop soars again; Wall Street bends under the pressure
GameStop's stock is back to the races Friday, and the overall U.S. market is down again, as the saga that's captivated and confused Wall Street ramps up the drama. AdThe assault is directed squarely at hedge funds and other Wall Street titans that had bet the struggling video game retailerโs stock would fall. Wall Streetโs focus remains squarely on GameStop and other moonshot stocks. After their success with GameStop, traders have been looking for other downtrodden stocks in the market where hedge funds and other Wall Street firms are betting on price drops. Testing new release strategy, 'The Croods' opens to $14.2M

Most have tapped out around $4 million on opening weekend. One of the biggest differences is that Universal spent more heavily to market the $65 million โCroodsโ sequel from DreamWorks Animation.
AMC allowing movie lovers to rent a theatre all to yourself
Starting at $99, movie lovers can rent out a whole auditorium at AMC Theatres to watch a movie. Anyone who wants to rent out a theatre can go to AMCโs website and fill out an online request form. In the form, you need to specify what movie youโd like to watch, the date you want to go and what AMC location you want to rent from. Prices vary from what movie youโd like to watch. Some of the available movies cost between $149-$349, excluding class, but most movies cost $99.
'Walking Dead' to be laid to rest in 2022, spin-offs to rise
LOS ANGELES The end is coming for The Walking Dead, but not until 2022. The AMC series that became a franchise with current and planned spin-offs will wrap with an 11th season spanning 24 episodes and two years, the channel said Wednesday. When The Walking Dead is laid to rest in late 2022, a new spin-off centered on characters Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier (Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride) will follow in 2023, AMC said. An anthology series, Tales of the Walking Dead, focusing on new and existing characters, is in development along with other projects grounded in The Walking Dead universe," the channel said. Closer at hand are Fear the Walking Dead, which begins its sixth season Oct. 11, and newcomer The Walking Dead: World Beyond, which debuts Oct. 4 and follows the first generation to grow up during the apocalypse.
Tenet to screen early at theaters in some U.S. cities
Some U.S. moviegoers will be able to see Christopher Nolans Tenet a few days early. Warner Bros. on Tuesday said that it would be offering early access screenings starting Aug. 31 as a gesture of support to the domestic theaters that are reopening after five months of being closed because of COVID-19. Tenet is the first major new Hollywood movie to be released in theaters since most locations shuttered in mid-March. Warner Bros. is proud to support our partners in exhibition as they reopen their doors, said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution, in a written statement. Early domestic screenings of Tenet will be scheduled on the evenings of Aug. 21, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 where theaters are open in the U.S. Tickets go on sale Friday.
Movie theaters implore studios: Release the blockbusters

While the beleaguered restaurant industry still has takeout and airlines continue to operate with masked flyers, the vast majority of U.S. movie theaters havent punched a single ticket since March. The largest studios the Walt Disney Co., Warner Bros., Universal now all have streaming services of their own now, along with television operations. Theaters in China, the worlds second largest movie market, this week reopened with theaters limited to 30% capacity. If they dont do something, if they just keeping holding the films back, the theaters are going to die.
Cinemark to reopen movie theaters, pizza continues to sell
Following are developments Tuesday related to the national and global response, the work place and the spread of the virus. ________________________MOVIE TIME: Cinemark Holdings will reopen some of its U.S. movie theaters on July 24, with additional theaters reopening in subsequent weeks. Cinemark runs 555 theaters in 41 states and 15 countries throughout South and Central America. Rival AMC is also planning to reopen some of its movie theaters next month. The pizza company said Tuesday that almost all traditional restaurants in North America remain open and fully operational.
Cinema chain AMC warns it may not survive the pandemic
Movie theater chain AMC warned Wednesday that it may not survive the coronavirus pandemic, which has shuttered its theaters and led film studios to explore releasing more movies directly to viewers over the internet. AMC said it had enough cash to reopen its theaters this summer, as it plans to do. The company said that even when local governments allow theaters to reopen, AMC may still have problems if entertainment companies delay releasing new films. Since the pandemic shut down theaters, entertainment companies have delayed most movies. Cinemark, another major movie chain, plans to begin reopening U.S. movie theaters on June 19.

'Breaking Bad' movie will be released in October

"El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie" will be available on the streaming service October 11. The sequel will pick up shortly after the series finale, which aired six years ago on AMC, and it should answer the cliffhanger "What happened to Jesse Pinkman?" Series creator Vince Gilligan wrote and directed the movie. As the trailer ends, he says, "No way I'm helping you people put Jesse Pinkman back inside a cage."
You could be in a 'Walking Dead' spinoff set to film in Virginia
HOPEWELL, Va. - Now is your chance to be a blood-thirsty zombie -- and get paid for it. "Monument," AMC's "Walking Dead" spinoff, will be filming in Hopewell next month, according to NBC 12. The show is set to start with a plane crash, so a 737 fuselage will be set up on Hopewell Street for filming from July 30 to August 15. Danai Gurira confirms 'The Walking Dead' exit
Danai Gurira is leaving AMC's "The Walking Dead" in Season 10. Gurira, who has played sword-wielding fan-favorite Michonne since "The Walking Dead's" third season, announced during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel that she will be exiting the show. With news of the exit also came word that the zombie apocalypse drama is getting some new warm bodies. Series executive producer Gale Anne Hurd shared that "American Beauty" star Thora Birch will join "The Walking Dead" as Gamma. The tenth season of "The Walking Dead" will premiere at 9 p.m. on October 6.
