Henry County students win heifers in scholarship competition
HENRY COUNTY, Va. – “I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her,” said Bassett High School freshman MaKayla Dillon. The Virginia Hereford Association awards two heifers each year as scholarships to high school students across the state. This year, both scholarship winners are from Henry County. Bassett High School agriculture teacher Cameron Kolinski said this is a great learning opportunity for the students. The calves Paisley and Rose produce will be given to next year’s scholarship winners.
Bassett High School starts drone delivery project
HENRY COUNTY, Va. - The drones at Bassett High School may be small, but they're having a big impact. About a week ago, Reynolds and six other students in the Tech Squad class started using drones to deliver candy and notes around the school. "We've only done a couple of deliveries, but from how many deliveries we've done, I'm really proud of what we've done," Reynolds said. Donna Hicks teaches the class and was inspired to start the drone delivery project by recent local news stories about drone delivery service coming to Christiansburg. Soon, the students will also be able to put those skills to the test using larger drones.
Girl confesses to making fake bomb threat at Henry County high school, authorities say
HENRY COUNTY, Va. - Authorities say students were never in danger at Bassett High School in Henry County after a bomb threat was discovered Friday afternoon. The threatening message was found at about noon and members of the Henry County Sheriff's Office worked with school officials to ensure students and staff were safe. They said she confessed the threat was a hoax and there was never a threat to the students. Investigators will be working with juvenile intake in regard to possible charges. Henry County teachers, administrators learn to 'stop the bleed'
HENRY COUNTY, Va. - With the start of school a week away in Henry County, teachers are unfortunately forced to prepare for worst case scenarios. Travis Pruitt asked a room full of Bassett High School teachers and administrators at the school Monday morning. That's your biggest gathering of people," Pruitt said, explaining where mass shootings are most likely to happen in the county.
