Freezinโ for a reason: Polar Plunge exceeds fundraising goal for Special Olympics Virginia
DALEVILLE, Va. โ Saturday marked another successful polar plunge benefitting Special Olympics Virginia. The scenery was a little different for this yearโs Polar Plunge but the cause was the same. โWe were freezinโ for a reason,โ WSLS 10 News team co-captain and anchor Brittny McGraw said. โYou canโt ask for a more worthy organization than the Special Olympics of Virginia,โ Haniewich said. Thanks to your generous donations, the 10 News team also exceeded its goal, raising $6,650.

Ice, Ice Baby! New River Polar Plunge just days away
As of Wednesday night, the New River Polar Plunge was about $12,500 shy of its $55,000 goal. 10 News has a team ready to take the plunge, and as of 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night, had raised nearly $6,000. This event is one of five Polar Plunge Festivals in Virginia. Thereโs a similar event in Prince William County on Saturday and a 'Solar Plungeโ in Richmond on June 13. The plunge season kicked off in Fairfax on Jan. 25 and the biggest plunge took place Feb. 7-8 in Virginia Beach.

Marine biologist living in Bahamas gives 10 News an exclusive look at destruction there
10 News Anchor Brittny McGraw spoke with a North Carolina man who is in the Bahamas and described the situation as "catastrophic." Joe Oliver is a marine biologist from North Carolina living and working in the Bahamas, experiencing Dorian's wrath firsthand. All that can be seen are miles of destruction and devastation in some parts of the Bahamas. "Trees are down everywhere..."Oliver is on Grand Bahama Island and says he's been through hurricanes before, but nothing like this. He says while the focus will eventually turn to rebuilding and recovery, right now, the focus for many is simply on surviving.
