LOS ANGELES – The Elton John AIDS Foundation and TikTok are teaming up to raise awareness about the disease through a campaign and live event for World AIDS Day. The event will air on John’s TikTok channel featuring the singer and husband-filmmaker David Furnish along with performances by Sam Smith, Sam Fender and Rina Sawayama. The campaign is also expected to help educate TikTokers about the prevention and own sexual health. “We all need to care about HIV and end the discrimination around this disease,” John said in a statement. “There’s a great lineup for our TikTok Live to break down the myths around HIV, talk about safe sex and ensure that young people know how to protect themselves and others.”

RICHMOND, Va. John H. Hager, a former Virginia lieutenant governor who served from 1998 to 2002, has died at the age of 83. Hager, originally from North Carolina, survived contracting polio as an adult and made campaign stops in a wheelchair, news outlets said. Warner said in a statement that Hager was able to overcome challenges to serve Virginia. Anyone who worked in Virginia politics quickly learned that John was everywhere, and no one outworked him, Northam said. The wife of singer-songwriter John Prine, who died from complications of COVID-19, urged lawmakers Tuesday to expand absentee voting so Tennesseans would not have to put their health at risk to exercise their right to vote. This is not nor should it be a partisan issue, said Whelan Prine, who spoke over a video livestream and did not attend in person. Shortly after Whelan Prine finished speaking, the Senate committee spiked an absentee ballot expansion proposal. The state has more than a dozen categories that qualify someone for an absentee ballot, from being sick to being 60 or older. The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the Campaign Legal Center also have sued in federal court seeking absentee voting for all voters this year.

John Kessler, a Roanoke native who served as a paratrooper with the Army in World War II, died on Tuesday. He returned to Roanoke after WWII, and worked as a printer with the Roanoke Times for more than 30 years. Kessler often talked about his service in later years, and served as the Grand Marshal of Roanoke’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2012. Bernard Marie, a friend of Kessler’s who organizes an annual dinner for WWII veterans, says Kessler’s death is a reminder his generation is fading away. “John was certainly the guy who said, ‘World War II veterans need to tell people what we did,’" said Marie.

(CNN) - Veteran "Days of Our Lives" star John "Jack" Clarke has died, a representative for his daughter told CNN. Clarke died last Wednesday in California from complications of pneumonia, according to family representative Cheryl McLean. "John had previously suffered a stroke in 2007 and has had declining health in the last few years," McLean added. "Above all, family life was always most important to John and his wife Patty." Clarke also performed as a leading man in more than 75 plays at the Tenthouse Theater in Chicago, IL.

But a deeply personal moment on the campaign trail Friday spoke to how much the issue of affordable health care affects Americans. During the Friday event in Carson City, a Navy veteran named John shared with Sanders that he is $139,000 in debt because his health insurance, Tricare, a program for the military, is no longer accepted. When asked by Sanders how he is going to pay off his debt, John said, raising his voice, "I can't, I can't, I'm gonna kill myself." Sanders shared with CNN that in this conversation with the veteran, he made sure his team got the correct contact information. LYNCHBURG, Va. - A young kitten is recovering after being run over by a lawnmower. No one knew he was there, and he was run over by someone cutting the grass. Once this person realized what happened, he acted quickly and brought the cat to the Lynchburg Humane Society, where the veterinarian performed lifesaving surgery. It says things were "touch and go" for a bit with John, but now he is recovering and "thriving." The Lynchburg Humane Society is asking for donations to help save pets like John.

When he walked into work at Wokology, a car was parked outside with congratulatory signs on it. He walked right past the car, not realizing it was there -- or was his -- until he came outside to talk to 10 News. He met Williams about six months ago, when he saw Williams admiring his car. "I've been in those shoes before, where you just need somebody to give you an opportunity. You just need somebody to give you a hand," Hunter said.

"After our friend had canceled on us, we were all thinking about who else we could take," Wetzonis told CNN.
