SALEM, Va. โ You can help make a difference this winter and all it takes is an item of clothing. The Rotary Club of Salem is hosting its 16th coat drive on Thursday, January 21. The organization teamed up with the Kiwanis Club in Salem, as well as high school and college students to collect new and gently-used coats, hats, gloves and scarves. Itโs a basic need and weโre here to fulfill that need for our community and our neighbors,โ said Jane Johnson, a member of the Rotary Club of Salem. The coat drive is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Salem Civic Center.
Uganda reports blood shortages amid coronavirus pandemic

The Uganda Red Cross, which helps authorities to mobilize blood donors, said it hasn't been easy to recruit donors during the pandemic. Local media in Romania have cited fear of COVID-19 infections among the reasons for a decline in the number of blood donors.
Olde Salem Days canceled, citing coronavirus
SALEM, Va. Another Salem tradition will not be happening in 2020 because of the coronavirus. On Friday, The Rotary Club of Salem announced that Olde Salem Days is canceled for 2020. The group cited coronavirus concerns as the reason for the cancellation. This follows the decision to cancel the Salem Fair in 2020. Plans are already underway to reinvent the event for next year.
