Vehicle fire caused backup on I-81 in Wythe County

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. – A vehicle fire caused a backup in Wythe County on Tuesday night. The fire, at mile marker 63, about 3 miles north of the Rural Retreat exit, closed the northbound right shoulder. As of 11 p.m., the shoulder was still closed. VDOT said traffic was backed up more than seven miles at one point.

Roanoke firefighters stop two-alarm hazardous material vehicle fire

ROANOKE, Va. Crews worked to stop the spread of hazardous materials after a commercial vehicle fire on Friday afternoon. At 3:06 p.m., Roanoke Fire-EMS was dispatched to the 1100 block of Industry Ave. Rescue workers arrived to find a commercial vehicle contain hazardous materials engulfed in flames, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS. The Hazardous Materials Team worked on containment of the leakage. Roanoke Fire-EMS announced around 9:30 p.m. that the hazmat spill was contained and crews remained on scene to help clean up.
