UVA wide receiver Lavel Davis Jr. identified as victim in Sunday’s deadly shooting

UVA wide receiver Lavel Davis Jr. was one of three killed in a shooting Sunday night at a UVA parking garage, his cousin, Newberry College assistant football coach Sean Lampkin, confirmed on Twitter.

He wore jersey #1.

Authorities told 10 News that the shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Culbreth Road.

The incident unfolded on a charter bus full of students returning to Charlottesville after seeing a play in Washington, D.C., a little over 30 hours after Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Panthers, according to the Associated Press.

Lavel’s dad posted to his Facebook account on the devasting news, saying, “Lord please help me.”

A suspect, identified as a student at UVA, was taken into custody after a nearly 12-hour manhunt with authorities ordering students to shelter in place and conducting a building-by-building and grounds search of the campus, according to officials.
