Sheriff Mike Miller said this is considered a class one misdemeanor and the punishment is either a fine of $2,500 for each offense or a year behind bars. Bedford County woman creates ‘Peanuts’ holiday hay display

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Charlie Brown and his pals, Snoopy and Woodstock, are hanging out in a field along Route 608 in the Huddleston section of Bedford County. “Charlie Brown was so all-inclusive, way before its time; and so I thought it’s important that everyone still gets to enjoy it,” Bays said. Stacked hay bales make Charlie Brown about 15-feet-tall, while Snoopy and Woodstock are built with wood frames, hay and chicken wire. Bays says it’s a sign of her love for the cartoon characters, while protesting the holiday classic being taken off TV. “It’s like the quintessential memory, watching Charlie Brown at the holidays.

Man dies in multi-vehicle crash in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – UPDATEAuthorities have identified the person that died in a crash in Franklin County on Wednesday. Officers say a box truck was going south on Brooks Mill Road when it sideswiped a southbound 2016 Chevy Silverado. Authorities say the box truck then crossed the center line and hit a northbound 2008 Honda Civic head-on. ORIGINAL STORYVirginia State Police are investigating a crash that happened in Franklin County Wednesday morning. At 7:42 a.m., police said they responded to a multi-vehicle crash in the 4100 block of Brooks Mill Road.

Backpacking with Brooke: Turtle Island

HUDDLESTON, Va. Turtle Island is an easy 1.2 mile hike that leads to an island on Smith Mountain Lake. The hike is located in the Smith Mountain Lake State Park, and cost $7 for parking. You will start at the sign for turtle island, heading to the left. When we were finished, we followed the trail up the middle of the island and took the loop to the left back. If you are heading to Smith Mountain Lake to visit the beach, I highly suggest checking this hike out.

Suspect arrested after an assault on a realtor showing property at an open house in Bedford County

UPDATE:A man has been arrested after a realtor was assaulted near Smith Mountain Lake State Park. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants on and arrested 34-year-old Dustin R. Holdren of Roanoke, Virginia on Sunday. “We host open houses, and I host open houses myself, and sometimes you just can’t control who comes through the door.”Grewe recommends realtors never show houses alone in the wake of this assault. The sheriff’s office says Holdren is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail under no bond. According to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, a realtor called police stating they had been assaulted while showing an open house at Mariners Landing Subdivision in Huddleston near Smith Mountain Lake.

Unique Schools: Forest School means kids spend the entire class day outside

At ONE Forest School in Huddleston, kids are climbing hills and playing in the creek. Well find a really cool hill thats really slippery and well see if we cant climb the hill. Thats really exciting for us. Eubank says this is the first accredited forest school in Virginia and that accreditation is an internationally recognized designation.
