Late comeback gives VMI upset win in SoCon Quarterfinals
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Jake Stephens scored 25 points as VMI narrowly beat Furman 91-90 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference tournament. Greg Parham added 21 points and Trey Bonham had 14 points for VMI. Myles Lewis added 13 points. Noah Gurley scored a career-high 30 points plus seven rebounds and seven assists for the Paladins. The wins puts VMI in the SoCon semifinals for the first time since 2003.
VMI downs Samford, earns 6th SOCON win of the season
LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI held an eight point lead at halftime, setting up a momentous second half where they had a 32-9 run, on its way to a 85-56 win over Samford. The 29-point win is the largest conference victory under head coach Dan Earl as the Keydets moved to 10-1 at home this season. VMI tops The Citadel 110-103 behind career high performances
Parham posted his third straight 20-point+ effort and Conway garnered career highs both in points and rebounds with 13 while hitting a career-high seven 3-point shots. VMI converted 26-of-30 free throws including 14-of-16 over the last 5:37 to hold off a Citadel rally. VMI moved to 7-1 on the season after leading at the half and out rebounding a foe. Last second shot lifts Wofford 80-78 at VMI
After a Terrier defensive stop, Murphy nailed the game winner and a VMI desperation shot from midcourt fell short. Junior Jake Stephens had 11 of his 13 points in the second half and added six assists to tie a career high. Wofford shot 53 percent for the game (30-57) and 54 percent (14-26) from three-point range. Kamdyn Curfman had 17 points for VMI, which earned its sixth consecutive home victory. Today we got some really good minutes from Ta’Vonne Bond especially on the defensive end and Trajan Fahl gave us some really good minutes. And obviously, Greg Parham, Jake Stephens and Kamdyn Curfman were tremendous today. Stefan Kenic added 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Stephens, Gilkeson carry VMI over The Citadel 88-79
LEXINGTON, Va. – Jake Stephens had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead five VMI players in double figures as the Keydets ended their seven-game losing streak, topping The Citadel 88-79. Garrett Gilkeson added 16 points for the Keydets. Myles Lewis chipped in 12, Sean Conway scored 12 and Greg Parham had 10. Kaiden Rice led the Bulldogs with 17 points.
Gardner leads East Carolina past VMI 80-68
GREENVILLE, N.C. - GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Jayden Gardner scored 28 points as East Carolina topped VMI 80-68 in a season opener on Tuesday night. VMI led 45-44 when Kamdyn Curfman hit a 3-pointer with 16:22 remaining but Gardner scored the next seven points for East Carolina and the Pirates led the rest of the way. Tristen Newton added 20 points for the Pirates and Brandon Suggs scored 12. Greg Parham scored a career-high 23 points for the Keydets. East Carolina faces Navy on the road on Friday.
