CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Nahiem Alleyne hit a go-ahead jumper with 25 seconds remaining in overtime and No. 16 Virginia Tech defeated Miami 80-76 on Saturday afternoon. Hunter Cattoor’s two late free throws secured the win for the Hokies (14-4, 8-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). Cattoor, who had14 points, forced the overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 74. The basket erased Isaiah Wong’s go-ahead three-pointer with 2.4 seconds remaining for Miami.

Johnson ends slump, Pitt tops No. 16 Virginia Tech 83-72

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Xavier Johnson scored a career-high 32 points and Pittsburgh beat No. 16 Virginia Tech 83-72 to end a three-game skid. He shot 11 of 17 from the floor, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, as the Panthers had their way against a usually stingy Virginia Tech defense. They were more physical, they threw the ball into the post, we had absolutely no answer for Johnson,” said Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young. Hokies battle past ‘pesky’ VMI 64-57

Blacksburg, Va. – RECORDS AND NOTABLES ● Virginia Tech moves to 4-0 on the season after taking down VMI 64-57. ● Tech forced VMI to commit nine turnovers and the Hokies scored 13 points off those turnovers. ● KEY FIRST HALF RUN: With just over 5 minutes left in the half, tied at 16-16 Tech went on a 12-2 run giving the Hokies a 28-18 edge. ● KEY SECOND HALF RUN: Late in the second half the Hokies went on a 10-2 run to give Tech a 53-47 advantage. This run would prove to be enough as the Hokies defeated VMI 64-57.
