You can catch a live ballet performance for free this weekend in Roanoke.

The Nutcracker brings holiday cheer to Carillion Clinic

ROANOKE, Va. – To help make the holidays a little less lonely for hospital patients, the Southwest Virginia Ballet decided to bring some holiday cheer to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The ballet company partnered with Blue Ridge PBS to stream the performance on the GetWellNetwork, the in-house patient channel. Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital has more than 700 rooms and the performance will be available to view in each room. So being able to watch that, keeps their mind off their cancer,” Melinda Bailey, an oncology nurse, said. The performance will stream until December 29th.

Southwest Virginia Ballet company takes ‘The Nutcracker’ to the TV screen

ROANOKE, Va. – Grab your popcorn, because the Southwest Virginia Ballet’s production of the Nutcracker is coming to your screen. Rather than a traditional performance on just a stage, the ballet company is partnering with Blue Ridge PBS and other sponsors to air the show throughout December. A moment Emerson Kniola, a senior dancer, is excited about as her family lives in New York and Michigan. “This year the Nutcracker which is my favorite production," Kniola said. If you are not in the area, viewers can watch the performance online in a Nutcracker Marathon on BRPBS' YouTube channel “Blue Ridge Streaming” the weekend of December 11-13 and again throughout the holiday season.

Southwest Virginia Ballet looks for Nutcracker options, unveils new logo

ROANOKE, Va. As the hottest July on record closes out, its hard to think about the holiday season, but the Southwest Virginia Ballet is already looking to its biggest performance. In fact, dancers have had the chance to learn from professionals from around the world through online masterclasses. While ballet leaders have had to get creative when it comes to teaching students, they're also trying to get creative entertaining the public while keeping everyone safe. We are literally in the thick of that now, trying to come up with the best decision, so that we can still bring the joy of the Nutcracker to the people of Southwest Virginia, said Carol Jessee, Executive Director of Southwest Virginia Ballet. On top of preparing for the holidays, the ballet company has also just unveiled a new website and logo.

ROANOKE, Va. – An unforgettable holiday classic returns to the Berglund Center this weekend. Southwest Virginia Ballet presents “The Nutcraker” featuring 150 cast members.
