But while the world is sad over Thompsonโs passing, he at least had 19 more years of living after nearly dying during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. But Romeโs producer, Danny Schwartz, asked that he fly out a day later to accommodate the showโs schedule. Thompson told Schwartz that wouldnโt work and he was unhappy at the suggestion, but after Schwartz insisted, Thompson changed his flight. Ten years after that day, Thompson went on Romeโs radio show to reminisce, starting with a message Thompsonโs assistant relayed to him. โLet me tell you something, if youโre ever in Washington, D.C., you look me up,โ Thompson told Schwartz.
75-year-old woman dies in South Boston house fire
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. โ Firefighters found the body of a 75-year-old woman as they were working to extinguish a house fire in South Boston on Tuesday. The 911 came in at 11:41 a.m. for a house fire at 1929 Crawley Ave. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames, according to the South Boston Police Department. The house was declared a total loss after the heavy fire damage, according to police. Virginia State Policeโs Bomb and Arson Unit is assisting South Boston police in the investigation to determine the fireโs cause and origin.
Man arrested in standoff after 3 shot in Bedford County
BEDFORD, Va. โ Bedford County deputies have arrested a man they say barricaded himself in a home after three people were shot. Around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Bedford County 911 received a call from the 100 block of Shepherd Lane reporting gunshots. They told deputies that the man who shot them was still inside the home. The suspect, who deputies later identified as 56-year-old Mark Edwin Turner, barricaded himself in the home for about two hours. "When deputies attempted to make contact he refused to come out," said Lt. Kyle Williams with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
