YMCA, Macado’s give out thousands of free meals for Giving Tuesday
ROANOKE, Va. – Thousands of people were able to get free meals in Roanoke on Giving Tuesday thanks to a local partnership. Macado’s and the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge teamed up to hand out 3,000 free, boxed meals. The distribution was done drive-thru style with the help of volunteers and law enforcement to meet COVID-19 guidelines. “We are a true community and really, we’re a true family and families help each other. The first 1,000 cars also received a goody bag to help with holiday meals.

Special Olympics Virginia asks for support to help those with intellectual disabilities
ROANOKE, Va. – In a year where the value of life has made headlines across our nation, Special Olympics Virginia hopes to continue that fight into 2021 with your help. The nonprofit works to improve the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities through sports. For every dollar donated, 89 cents goes right into the program to help athletes. ‘Give local’: Lynchburg nonprofit asking for support this Giving Tuesday
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Giving Tuesday is this week -- and local nonprofits need your help more than ever before. Staff members at Park View Community Mission in Lynchburg say they’ve seen an influx of people since the COVID-19 pandemic began. We’re told around 1,300 people in the community go hungry every day. “Saturday they say, ‘Shop local.’ On Tuesday, we hope it will be ‘Give local;’ and I like to say because then you know where it’s going, especially if it’s a food pantry like ours,” said Earl Larkins, a Park View spokesperson. The global day of giving takes place every Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
