Salem City Council will hold a special meeting today in closed session to considered prospective candidates for the Assistant City Manager position. The former Marine, accused of killing his mothers boyfriend, will be in court today in Franklin County for a preliminary hearing. Michael Brown was on the run for 18 days, after being accused of shooting Rodney Brown in front of his mothers home. The search stretched from Franklin County to Clarendon County, S. C. to Roanoke, before Browns arrest at the home in Franklin County.

ROANOKE, Va. – A search warrant is revealing new details about the case of a Marine accused of murdering his mother’s boyfriend in Franklin County. According to the warrant, investigators searched Rodney Brown’s bank statements from Jan. 1 to Nov. 21 last year. The warrant says the search also included copies of checks, wire transfers, deposits, IRA and CD accounts, life insurance policies, business resolutions and signature cards. Brown was found shot to death outside his girlfriend’s home Nov. 9. Michael Brown was arrested at the home after an 18-day nationwide manhunt.

ROANOKE, Va. – Search warrants reveal new details about the weeks-long nationwide manhunt for a marine, accused of killing his mother’s boyfriend in Franklin County. According to one search warrant, investigators collected 70 items from the RV officials believe Michael Brown was using. The search warrant also revealed the day before the RV was found, investigators talked to an “associate” who confirmed he had been with Michael Brown, but Brown left in an RV. Surveillance video from an area close to the associate’s location showed an RV pulling into a campground, pulling an enclosed trailer. Inside was a black Lincoln Town Car investigators believe Brown was using to get around.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – Search warrants are revealing new details about the investigation into the murder of Rodney Brown. Fifty seven search warrants, sealed since Nov. 12, were unsealed in Franklin County Circuit Court Wednesday. The majority of the unsealed search warrants are for Michael’s social media, phone, cable and e-mail accounts. A possible motive remained unclear Wednesday, but search warrants say Rodney Brown withdrew a “significant” amount of money from a Roanoke bank the day before he died. On Wednesday, 10 News confirmed additional search warrants related to the case are on file in Roanoke City Circuit Court, but as of Wednesday those warrants were sealed.

The cousin, whose house is essentially in the backyard of the house where Michael Brown is accused of killing Rodney Brown Nov. 9, claims she saw Michael there Friday. On Wednesday, she shared with 10 News a picture of Michael as a little boy, describing him as nerdy and very nice. "I didn’t know, probably, until about 10 (a.m.) A friend of mine called me,' the cousin said. I don’t know what happened, but it had to be something pretty bad because you’re a good person, you really are. No one answered the door of the home where Michael was arrested when 10 News knocked on Wednesday.

Franklin County court records show that the man Michael Brown is accused of killing, Rodney Brown, was charged with child abuse before those charges were later dropped. Rodney Brown was the live-in boyfriend of Michael Brown’s mother. 10 News obtained a copy of those records from 2006, which show that a judge dismissed all charges against Rodney, who was found guilty of abusing and neglecting his child. Police are still searching for Michael Brown who’s been on the run since November 9.

ROANOKE, Va. – Friday marks the first time we’ve had a chance to hear from the mother and grandmother of the Marine wanted for murder. Michael Brown’s mother, Vanessa Hanson, and his grandmother, Diane Hanson, issued a desperate plea for his safety. Rodney Brown, Michael’s mother’s live-in boyfriend was murdered. As 10 News has reported, a federal court filing shows Vanessa Hanson witnessed Rodney Brown’s death and named him the killer. Then, Thursday morning, Brown was spotted tapping on the window of his grandmother’s home on Tillett Road in Roanoke.

ROANOKE, Va. According to the attorney hired represent Michael Brown, many believe the wanted Marine is not a violent person and that hes innocent. As 10 News reported Thursday, friends of Brown hired Roanoke attorney Deborah Caldwell-Bono to represent him. She said theyre worried about the 22-year-old and they want him to be alive when the situation is resolved. It seems like from what police are saying hes had opportunity but has not acted on anything, Caldwell-Bono said. She said its way too early to guess what a defense for Brown might be like in a murder trial.

The mother of a wanted Marine witnessed him kill her boyfriend, according to a federal court filing. The search continues Friday for Michael Brown, whom Franklin County deputies accuse of killing Rodney Brown on Saturday. Marshals said she witnessed the murder and named her son as the killer. Marshals said, in the filing, that they interviewed Hanson on Sunday, the day after the murder. According to the filing, Brown will face a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

ROANOKE, Va. – The alleged victim of a Franklin County murder is being remembered by his employer of more than two decades. Rodney Brown, who was allegedly murdered by Michael Brown, was a 26-year employee of the Western Virginia Water Authority. He retired on August 1. Officials with the water authority say they are saddened to learn of his death.
