Lynchburg’s proposed 2027 budget tops $620 million, and city leaders say most of that money is earmarked for maintaining what already exists — not launching new programs.

The City of Lynchburg announced that beginning on Thursday and continuing until Monday Nov. 10, the lawn at Riverfront Park will be closed as contractors sod.

An annual event is returning to Lynchburg this Labor Day weekend – the Lynchburg Pridefest is slated to be held at the Riverfront Park on Saturday afternoon.

It’s been about two years since the feature was shut off due to much-needed repairs.

The festival, originally slated for August 26 & 27 at Riverfront Park, isn’t going to happen this year, and the Academy Center of the Arts said the lack of outdoor amenities is to blame.

The playground would go in Riverfront Park near the Splash Plaza.

Danville has received $740,000 from the state for a new park, bringing the total funds raised to $7.2 million.
