Roanoke city community members are reviving a neighborhood council in an effort to address concerns in the community.

The “Clean Valley Council,” “Standing for Equity in the Roanoke Valley,” and “Roanoke Kiwanis” came together to participate in a trash pickup event Monday morning.

The Melrose Plaza is expected to be complete by the end of 2024, with hopes the center will lift up community members for success in Northwest Roanoke.

The project includes new sidewalks, bike lanes, freshly paved roads, more street lights and two, new covered bus stops.

ROANOKE, Va. - The Kiwanis Club of Roanoke is hosting a bocce ball tournament this weekend to raise money to build a playground for underserved families. The new, all-abilities playground will be built near the new Melrose library in Roanoke next year. This Saturday, Sept. 28, the club is hosting the tournament and it's open to anyone. It's for families, it's for adults and if I can play, you can play," said Jackie Bledsoe, the co-chair of the playground project.
