Hokies drop fourth straight on the road at Georgia Tech 56-54
ATLANTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech’s starting five- Aisha Sheppard, Cayla King, Azana Baines, Asiah Jones and Elizabeth Kitley- combined for 44 points on Sunday but turnovers and mistakes kept the Hokies from snapping a 3-game losing streak. Aisha Sheppard tried to set the tone early with 12 first half points, finishing with 20. “I thought we left opportunities on the table where we didn’t capitalize,” said head coach Kenny Brooks. “We’re not playing together right now and we’re not trusting each other enough and it’s showing. It’s showing at the worst time in the game.”“Minimize the mistakes that we make throughout the game because they’re becoming repetitive because we’re seeing it in multiple different films, multiple different games it’s the same mistakes,” said Hokies guard Aisha Sheppard.
King’s career high 29 leads Hokies to initial ACC victory
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team was down early and trailed by as many as 11, but regrouped at halftime and earned an 88-71 victory over Pitt Thursday night on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. The win moves the Hokies to 6-0 and 1-0 in the league. The Hokies are now 8-9 all-time in ACC openers and 9-8 in ACC home openersGAME NOTES•Virginia Tech is now 11-5 against the Panthers•Kenny Brooks’ record moves to 92-49 at Virginia Tech and 429-171 in his career. •King’s 29 points are a career-best as were her 37 minutes played, seven field goals and eight free throws made.
