Radford boys earn season-opening win on the hardwoods
RADFORD, Va. – The Radford Bobcats defeated the Giles Spartans 69-12 in a season opener that featured a Three Rivers District matchup. Coach Rick Cormany’s crew played a complete game from start to finish and it started with the younger Cormany’s-- Cam and Gavin. Cam Cormany started the game with back-to-back three pointers, followed up by one from the wing by Gavin. The two combined for 25 points for the game, as the Bobcats made 13 three pointers in the win. Prioleau started and contributed two buckets in his first action since tearing his ACL during the 2019 football season.

Giles High School temporarily going 100% virtual due to positive COVID-19 cases
GILES COUNTY, Va. – Students at Giles High School won’t attend class in person until at least November 16. School leaders announced Wednesday that due to the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases at Giles High School, they are transitioning to virtual learning. The change goes into effect on Thursday, November 5 and will last through Monday, November 16. School leaders said they made this decision in consultation with the local health department.

GILES COUNTY, Va. There are two positive COVID-19 cases among Giles County students and staff members, school leaders announced Wednesday. There is one case at Giles High School and one case at Giles County Technology Center, but its not clear which one is a student and which is a staff member. The person who tested positive from Giles High School may have had direct exposure with students and staff members, school leaders said. The person who tested positive from Giles County Technology Center was not on school premises on Wednesday, school leaders said. School leaders said parents should continue to monitor their families health and look for COVID-19 symptoms.
Giles native, ESPN reporter Marty Smith returns home for a special night
SALEM, Va. Over time, the Roanoke Valley Sports Club has drawn big names to the area as guest speakers-- such as coaches and former players. Marty Smith spoke to a room of dozens to share his message of kindness, effort and compassion. And by the end of the night, it was Smith who gave a Giles County native an opportunity. Smith surprised Ty Lowery with a Never Settle scholarship as part of Tomorrows Team Inc., to help cover his expenses as a college student-athlete. Smith also signed copies of his New York Times Bestselling book, Never Settle: Sports, Family and the American Soul.

Two Giles County schools dismissing early after power outage
GILES COUNTY, Va. - The school day is ending early for some kids in Giles County. Macy McClaugherty Elementary/Middle School, Eastern Elementary/Middle School and Giles High School are cutting Wednesday short due to a power outage.
