Phones are ringing off the hook at The Homeplace Restaurant in Catawba. "Again, we donโt take it lightly.โWingate said when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, small businesses across the country took a huge hit and The Homeplace was no exception. With the current social distancing and health restrictions in place, the restaurant just canโt afford to stay open. โMaybe when the restrictions are lifted and we can get our restaurant back at a better capacity, we are looking, you know, possibly, possibly, to reopen," said Wingate. The Homeplace Restaurant in Catawba shared an update on Facebook Monday night with news that the last day of business this year will be on Sunday.
No one hurt after fire in Roanoke County causes $50,000 in damages to home, pickup truck
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. - Crews battled a house fire and a pickup truck fire on Tuesday in Roanoke County. It happened in the Catawba/Masons Cove area in the 7800 block of Bending Oak Drive. No one was injured, according to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue. The fire was determined to be an accident, with estimated damages at $50,000, due to the accidental pickup truck fire too close to the house, according to the Roanoke County Fire Marshal's Office. Large police presence remained for hours after Catawba man's arrest
CATAWBA, Va. - Police swarmed a quiet Roanoke County neighborhood Thursday morning as they worked to execute a search warrant. Ray is charged with shoplifting and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, according to the Roanoke County Jail. The shoplifting charge stems from an incident that occurred earlier this week at a retail store in Montgomery County, according to state police. State police explained the large police presence by sending this statement to 10 News:Resources needed for the execution of a search warrant are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The warrant is related to an ongoing, criminal investigation and it is not related to the triple murder investigation in Pittsylvania County, according to Virginia State Police Sgt.
Majority of Roanoke County has broadband, but it's slow life for those who don't
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. - It's 2019, and many of us would struggle to survive a day without the internet, but it's the reality people who live in one part of rural Roanoke County face every single day. Last week, Roanoke County leaders met with residents in the Catawba area of the county to discuss this problem. The Roanoke Valley continues to blaze forward in its quest to be a tech leader, and Roanoke County has been right there for it. But Layman has noticed that Northam hasn't made one in Roanoke County. Roanoke County leaders will meet on Aug. 27 to discuss this issue in a work session.
