A Mississippi judge will hold a hearing next month to determine if a death row inmate truly wants to request an execution date and if the inmate is mentally competent to waive appeals in the case. In court papers filed Monday, a special assistant state attorney general said the hearing for Blayde Nathaniel Grayson is scheduled for April 7 before George County Circuit Judge Kathy King Jackson. The state Supreme Court on Jan. 28 ordered that Grayson, 46, be put under oath to say whether he wishes to go forward with his request for the state to schedule his lethal injection.

Tornado Watch issued for most of the entire area through Thursday night
ROANOKE, Va. - The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for most of the 10 News area. Grayson, Carroll, Wythe, Bland, Pulaski, Giles, Craig, Alleghany, Bath and Highland counties are OUT of the Tornado Watch. A warning means that a tornado is imminent or likely to happen soon. If a warning is issued for your location, you need to seek shelter in the lowest possible spot, away from windows. Once it does, the wind will become strong at times through early Friday morning.
Friday to be at least 20 cooler than Thursday for many
ROANOKE, Va. - Lynchburg and Roanoke saw record heat Thursday, as highs reached into the middle 90s. Friday, however, will be 20-25 cooler for most locations. High temperatures will top out in the upper 70s and low 80s in this part of the region. The wedge will be in play, which also means an overcast sky for much of the day and patches of light rain and drizzle. Just know that the farther inland it goes, the wetter we'd be mid-to-late next week.
Back to School changes parents need to know about
ROANOKE, Va. - The first day of school is Wednesday, August 7 for many districts including Appomottox, Carroll, Grayson, and Nelson counties and Martinsville city. Virginia changed the age for getting a Tdap booster shot. To align with current ACIP recommendations, the 2019 General Assembly passed HB 2215 that changes the grade in which students receive Tdap vaccine from sixth to seventh grade. Students who received a Tdap immunization at age ten will not need another Tdap vaccine to enter seventh grade. He says establishing a routine is important and you should start a week or two before school starts.
Tulsa Man Pleads Guilty to Payroll Tax Fraud
Failing to account for or pay payroll taxes is not acceptable, said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Zuckerman of the Justice Departments Tax Division. Some of those taxes were payments for the Social Security and Medicare coverage of the employees, said U.S. Attorney Trent Shores.
