Alabama police chief quits amid questions over ticketing
The police chief in a small Alabama town that received about half its municipal revenue from fines and forfeitures linked to aggressive traffic enforcement resigned following a report about the practice. Mike Jones, chief of police in the Jefferson County town of Brookside, quit following a recent story by AL.com that said he turned the department into a traffic trap that by 2020 relied on income from ticketing people for minor and questionable offenses as they drive by on Interstate 22. Radford’s season comes to an end in Big South Semifinal
3 Campbell, 78-60, in Thursday’s Big South Semifinal game, the Radford men’s basketball team solid 2020-21 season came to an end. Ali kept the team within striking distance in the first half with 16 points and Hart caught fire in the second half with 13. The Highlanders finished the game with a 42.9 3-point percentage, with Ali and Hart knocking down seven of the nine. Even though Ali went 4-for-4 from the 3-point line in the first half, Campbell shot 55.6 percent from the floor and from beyond the arc. The Camels used strong shooting in the second half to push the lead to a game-high 24 points.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Radford men’s basketball team fell short against Vanderbilt on Saturday night and dropped a 59-50 contest in Memorial Gym. Radford shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the first half and held Vanderbilt to just 34.4 percent. Then Radford cut the lead to three points, 47-44, at the 6:39 mark thanks to Shaquan Jules and Dante Moses. Radford led in bench points, 29-11. Radford turned the ball over 19 times and Vanderbilt scored 17 points off the turnovers.
Early run by East Carolina pushes Pirates over Highlanders
GREENVILLE, N.C. – A first half run by East Carolina erased a nine-point Highlander lead and the Radford men’s basketball team was unable to come back falling 63-50 on Saturday afternoon in Williams Arena. After the dunk, the Pirates scored nine in-a-row and pushed their lead to 29-21 with a 19-2 run over 8:20. The Highlanders scored six of the final eight points of the first half and cut the deficit to four, 31-27. Stat of the GameRadford outscored East Carolina, 26-22 inside the paint, but the Pirates scored 17 points off Radford’s 14 turnovers. Radford shot 37.5 percent from the floor and shot less than 20 percent from beyond the arc.
Radford Men’s Hoops releases 2020-2021 schedule
RADFORD, Va. – Hours after the Big South Conference unveiled the 2020-21 men’s basketball conference slate, head coach Mike Jones released the full schedule on Wednesday afternoon. This year’s conference schedule format has been adjusted to limit travel and help ensure the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff. QB Uiagalelei rallies No. 1 Clemson to 34-28 win over BC
Uiagalelei stepped in for Lawrence on Saturday and rallied the top-ranked Tigers to a 34-28 victory over Boston College after they fell behind by 18 points. “It's the same mindset that I had this week,” Uiagalelei said. Radford's Javonte Green inks deal with Boston Celtics

Green, who played at Radford from 2011-15, officially became a member of the Celtics when he inked a two-year deal. "I can't express the feeling that I have being in the NBA," Green said. 1 seed in the Summer League Bracket before falling to eventual champion, Memphis. Green appeared in five games and averaged 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists during summer league play.
