Galax uses stifling defense claim Region 1C title, 14-0
Top region seed Galax used a couple of first half scores and a dynamic defensive effort to win the Region 1C title over Parry McCluer 14-0. Javonte Reeves rushed of a first half score and quarterback Ian Ashworth hit Ayden White for a second quarter touchdown pass to account for the scoring. The Maroon Tide (10-2) bottled up the power ground game led by RB John Snider in check throughout the game. Th Blues finish the season 9-4. Galax moves on to take on Region 1D champion Holston in the state semifinals.

Parry McCluer’s Mike Cartolaro ready to face former championship squad in state title game
BUENA VISTA, Va. – The last time Parry McCluer boys basketball was in a state title game, Talen Roberts wasn’t even born yet. Head coach Mike Cartolaro helped lead Saturday’s opponent Altavista to four state championships before returning to his alma mater in 2016. “You go a day at a time, a game at a time, you set your goals and try to accomplish those,” Cartolaro said. “It is kind of strange, it’s a game between us and them and I have to keep it that way,” Cartolaro said. Tip is at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Parry McCluer.

Parry McCluer ready to keep winning ways with young team
BUENA VISTA, Va. - Parry McCluer football is coming off a 7-5 season and a second round playoff loss to Narrows. The Blues have been a playoff team for eight straight seasons, so they're familiar with the postseason push. This year, they're hoping to overcome the loss of 16 seniors and keep the winning ways in Buena Vista. "I think our biggest asset right now is we all know everybody, we're a close team," senior Holden Kerr said. It's painful sometimes but I think that's a big part of it, teaching everybody to be tough," he said.

Northside, George Wythe Boys, Parry McCluer girls win region titles
ROANOKE, Va. – The Northside boys remain perfect on the year, downing Hidden Valley 61-36 to win the Region 3D championship. At Eastern Montgomery High School George Wythe outlasted Covington to win the 1C title. Elsewhere the Parry McCluer girls win the 1C title over Galax and William Fleming's girls win their semifinal in Region 5D over Mountain View 75-50.
