South Boston Police searching for man they say stole car at gunpoint
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. โ The South Boston Police Department is searching for the man they say held someone at gunpoint before stealing their car Friday night. Authorities said the victim reported he was approached by a man who initially asked him for a cigarette. The man police say stole the car fled the scene in the victimโs gold 2009 four-door Kia with Virginia license plate XRS-9608. Police describe the man as someone in his 20s to 30s and about five feet, seven inches to five feet, nine inches tall. 19-year-old dies, 3 hospitalized after car crashes into horse-drawn carriage in Pittsylvania County
PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. โ Charges are pending after a deadly crash involving a carriage and a car on Sunday night in Pittsylvania County. Police responded to East Gretna Road shortly before 7:30 p.m. after a 2016 Kia Sol rear-ended a horse-drawn carriage near Hermosa Road, according to Virginia State Police. One of the two passengers in the carriage, Joseph Swarey, 19, of Gretna, died at the scene. The driver, 21-year-old Moses Swarey, and other passenger, 18-year-old Susie Swarey, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Kia, Ronald King, 68, of Gretna, was also taken to a hospital for treatement.
Woman dead, another hurt after car hits tree, overturns in Carroll County, state police say
CARROLL COUNTY, Va. - A woman is dead after a crash in Carroll County, according to state police. It happened Wednesday around 6:40 p.m. on Route 620, less than a mile south of Route 735, according to state police. Passenger Elizabeth Kane, 70, of Sebring Florida, died at the scene after her 2015 Kia Sedona ran off the right side of the road, hit a tree and overturned, according to state police. Hyundai, Kia recall 500K compact cars
Hyundai and Kia are recalling more than a half-million compact cars in the U.S. due to brake lights staying on after the pedal is released, The Associated Press reported. The faulty pad can keep the brake lights illuminated and allow shifting out of park without a foot on the brake, the AP reported. The vehicles subject to the recall include 390,000 2013-14 Hyundai Elantra cars and 134,000 2012-14 Kia Forte cars, the AP reported. Kia's recall starts Jan. 30, the AP reported. Dealers will replace the brake stopper pad, the AP reported.
