When Center in the Square reopens, all staff and visitors will be required to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Brand-new landscaping and new signs are just some of the new things you'll see outside Lynchburg's mall next year. Officials with Liberty University recently submitted plans to begin Phase 4 with renovating River Ridge Mall. They've been calling for it for a while, rightly so, but also the retailers want to see something done here. There will be a brand-new shiny shopping center and entertainment center in the next year or so," Craig Pettitt, vice president of Real Estate, said. Renovations for Phase 1, which includes the center part of the mall is expected to finish by Thanksgiving.

ROANOKE, Va. - Roanoke City and Valley View Mall officials are optimistic after Sears announced its closing its Roanoke location. In Lynchburg, River Ridge Mall plans to demolish the former Sears building and replace it with new, big box retailers. "Maybe a woman's clothing store or something for kids," said Sharoya Thompson, who works at Valley View Mall. A Sears spokesperson told 10 News that information about "the number of store employees impacted is not available. The mall's property owner, CBL Propertiesc told WSLS:"We see this as an opportunity that will have a positive impact on the mall.

The parent company of Sears and Kmart, called Transform Co., said Wednesday that it has "faced a number of challenges returning our stores to sustainable levels of productivity. It plans to close five Kmarts and 21 Sears stores across the United States and Puerto Rico. It plans to "accelerate the expansion" of its smaller-formart stores, Sears Home & Life. Following the closures, Sears and Kmart will have about 400 remaining stores.
