Police chase ends as Mustang lands in Roanoke drainage ditch, police say
ROANOKE, Va. โ Authorities are investigating a police chase in Roanoke that ended with a crash on Thursday morning. Before the chase began, officers in a marked police car on Electric Road recognized the person driving a Ford Mustang as someone wanted on multiple charges in Roanoke and Botetourt counties, according to Virginia State Police. Staying on Franklin Road and entering Roanoke city limits, when the driver attempted to make a left turn from Franklin Road onto Brandon Avenue SW, at Georgeโs Flowers, the Mustang went through the yard at Georgeโs and crashed under the bridge. AdFirst responders took the person to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital to be treated and no one else was hurt in the pursuit.
Work continues on new site for Angels of Assisi treatment and adoption center
ROANOKE, Va. โ Work is well underway for a new animal hospital being built for Angels of Assisi. The new site is on the corner of Franklin Road and Elm Avenue in Roanoke. The nonprofit plans on using the $2.3 million dollar project as an animal treatment center and adoption site. Staff members say the new building will allow them to address a rising demand in animal care. The nonprofit is still looking for donations to help fund the project.
Potential power line incident blocked northbound and southbound lanes on Franklin Road

Residents evacuated from Ramada near Roanoke River due to flooding concerns
ROANOKE, Va. The Ramada on Franklin Road in Roanoke was evacuated due to flooding concerns on Thursday. The National Guard assisted the Roanoke Police Department and Roanoke Fire-EMS with the mandatory evacuation. Roanoke city officials said about 120 people were evacuated on a National Guard truck. Representatives from both Arch Roanoke and Blue Ridge Behavioral health came to help their clients. Before the evacuation was ordered, representatives from Arch, an organization that helps the homeless, braved the floodwater themselves to bring pizza to their clients.

Growth around former Ukrop's offers glimpse of possible impact of new Carilion facility
ROANOKE, Va. - First Watch restaurant on Franklin Road, next to the old Ukrop's grocery store, has no trouble staying busy. McAllister said being from the area, he's glad to see Carilion's investment in Tanglewood Mall. Carilion announced Thursday plans to spend $30 million to turn the former J.C. Penney in Tanglewood Mall into a children's pediatrics center. An Earth Fare grocery store and the Mellow Mushroom restaurant have also opened up in the parking lot across from Carilion's outpatient facility in the former Ukrop's grocery store. With Carilion's new children's center in the mall, Roanoke County is hopeful that, in the near future, the 419 corridor will provide all of that, too.

There are live wires across the road due to the crash, and authorities say the road will not be opened until crews are able to clear them.
Driver suffers serious injuries in Roanoke County crash
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. โ A driver was taken to a hospital Sunday night after a crash in the 7500 block of Franklin Road, the Roanoke County Police Department said. No other vehicles were involved. The driver didnโt have any passengers at the time. The wreck took place at 7:30 p.m.โDriver fatigue and weather conditions were likely factors,โ police said in a news release. The driverโs injuries are considered serious.
